Role Summary
Under the general direction of Principal Investigators, personnel will provide grant writing support, and facilitate proposal development in accordance with sponsor standards and requirements design, create and maintain research and grant writing templates for the University. Through participation in writing narrative sections and draft edits, particularly those that require technical expertise and awareness of education trends and issues, the Grant Proposal Writer will be the first point of call for proposal summaries. S/he will as well assist with graphic selection and proposal layout and work closely and in conjunction with the Graphic Designer to support proposal editing and copywriting where necessary.



Reports to: Assistant Director - Prof. Adei Studio for Research Excellence



Duties & Responsibilities:



In collaboration with the Grants Officer, provide real time updates to the Assistant Director - Prof. Adei Studio for Research Excellence through:

a. an organised log of sponsored program applications and records (not limited to funded proposals only) to reflect status, progress of proposals and ongoing research activity of PIs.
b. the creation, updates, and maintenance of templates, boilerplate information, and online resources that support proposal development and submission processes.
c. in-depth knowledge on the use of required grant management portals for proposal submission.
d. preparing and documenting all non-technical reports for grants and sponsored programs, including post-award narratives.
e. assisting PIs to arrange debrief sessions after proposal submission and post-award announcement, and documenting key findings for future applications and next steps.
f. coordinating with internal and external faculty and stakeholders in gathering grant-related data including demographics and research outcomes.



Other key responsibilities include:


g. Preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing, submission follow-ups and responding to public and private grant opportunities in areas that support Ashesi University’s academic agenda.
h. Reviewing requests for proposals, provide feedback on narrative documents and funding guidelines from sponsoring agencies to summarise and disseminate to appropriate faculty, staff, or researchers.
i. Assist faculty in preparing proposal narratives and documents in compliance with University, sponsor, and national guidelines and deadlines.
j. Support PI’s and Grant Officer / Project Manager in determining requirements, deadlines, and timelines for responses to solicitations and general application submissions in a proactive manner.



Minimum Qualifications
a. A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Literature, Communication, Creative Writing or any related field is required. Graduate degree in these areas or certification in Grant Writing is an additional value.
b. Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
c. Professional experience in using Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google Docs.

d. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary writing styles used in preparation of grant/proposals (e.g., APA format), with at least two (2) years experience
e. A creative eye with demonstrated knowledge of editing rules and guidelines and basic graphic design and layout.
f. Experience in interpreting and adhering to sponsor regulations and proposal guidelines.
g. A proven track record of securing new funding opportunities comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities for academic and technical programs.
h. Experience in successful management of multiple concurrent writing projects with competing priorities to meet deadlines.
i. Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
j. Experience in developing, writing, and submitting successful grant applications to international foundations with certifiable references and proven ability to research relationships with external funding sponsors and agencies
k. Skill in designing resource tools, materials, and presentations for writing proposals.
l. Efficient and effective organisational skills with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes.
